About BFAA
The Burlington Fine Arts Association (BFAA) is the fine arts guild of the Art Gallery of Burlington. Artists must be a member of the Art Gallery of Burlington to join. General meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at the Art Gallery of Burlington. All are welcome!
We have an active membership and BFAA is guided by a dedicated team of executive officers and executive committee members, who all volunteer their time.
Our History
Our roots as a guild go back to 1966, when anyone interested in fine arts could participate in workshops, programs, and an annual juried exhibition. Meetings were held around town, wherever decent free space could be found.
Arts Burlington, an alliance of associations, was established in March, 1972. Arts Burlington initially brought together BFAA with other arts and crafts guilds – weavers, hookers, quilters, and later brought in photographers, sculptors, and wood-carvers.
The first annual All Guilds show (“Kaleidoscope”) was held in May 1972 with 250 artists and crafts persons exhibiting works to over 3,000 visitors.
The Burlington Cultural Centre, overseen by a special Board of Directors, was established in 1975 and opened in June, 1978. Responding to Arts Burlington, city officials chose a site at Lakeshore Road and Brock Avenue and the provincial government awarded funds for an architect to draw up building plans. This eventually became the Art Gallery of Burlington.
President's Message: Welcome to the Burlington Fine Arts Association
The BFAA is a wonderful community of amazing artists at all levels, working in all styles of fine art media. We are a founding guild within the Art Gallery of Burlington, under the umbrella of Arts Burlington. While we are one of the largest art guilds in Ontario, currently close to 200 strong, we remain a vibrant community of artists, working together for the benefit of all within the association. Read more about our history.
The BFAA provides access to a unique facility with working studios and multiple galleries, an opportunity to draw, paint or print alongside other artists on a weekly or monthly basis, and so many opportunities to exhibit that you will find it hard to keep up!
We are a friendly group and the best way to meet us and take advantage of the numerous BFAA opportunities is to get involved. Here are some suggestions:
